THREE CLOTH PRESS METHOD

THREE CLOTH PRESS METHOD

What is the best way to make a lot of juice?
I spend a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to juice. The following is what I have settled on as a simple, fast and efficient way to make approximately 2 liters of juice in less than 30 minutes.

The advantage of putting one press pack at a time and partially pressing is that the press packs don’t slide around and the juice flow is more manageable.

Step 1 – Grind

I start by grinding approximately 6lbs pulp into a bowl.

Step 2 – Set-up

Take a baking sheet and lay 3 press cloths one on top of another.

Step 3 – Pressing

The Three Cloth Method is to partially press each pulp pack and then add a second and then a third pulp pack on top of the first and second until there are three pulp packs in the press. Once all three pulp packs are stacked in the press, the pulp is fully pressed until all juice is extracted.

First Press

  1. Fill the 1st cloth with 2 cups ground pulp.
  2. Engage the press, full speed up until the juice runs then slow the press way down to prevent overflow. Press at the pulp pack at full pressure for 2-3 seconds then disengage press.
  3. Press lowered with partially pressed pack.

Second Press

  1. Leave the first press pack in tray. Fill the 2nd cloth with 2 cups ground pulp and place on top of 1st press pack.
  2. Engage the press, full speed up until the juice runs then slow the press way down to prevent overflow. Press at the pulp pack at full pressure for 2-3 seconds then disengage press.
  3. Press lowered with one partially pressed pack and one fully pressed bag.

Third Press

  1. Leave first and second press packs in tray. Fill the 3rd cloth with 2 cups ground pulp and place on top of first and second press packs.
  2. Engage the press, full speed up until the juice runs then slow the press way down to prevent overflow. While pressing slowly, gradually increase to full pressure. Press all three pulp packs at full pressure for 60-90 seconds until the juice stream breaks
  3. Press lowered with all three fully pressed pulp packs and the finished juice ready for bottling.
