PESTO

PESTO

Did you know that making pesto dates back to the ancient Romans?

They ate a paste called moretum which was made by crushing cheese, garlic, and herbs together.  The first mention of a recipe for pesto can be found in an Italian book dating from 1863 called La Cuciniera Genovese. Pesto is traditionally prepared in a marble mortar with a wooden pestle.

An easier way to make homemade and fresh pesto is using your PURE Juicer.

Use grid #4 and your fresh and organic ingredients.

Basil Pesto Ingredients:

  • Fresh Basil
  • Toasted Pine Nuts
  • Garlic
  • Lemon Juice
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

Cilantro Pesto Ingredients:

  • Fresh Cilantro
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Chick Peas
  • Lemon Juice
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Jalapeno
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

You can store the pesto in the refrigerator for a week or in the freezer for up to three months.  We recommend using ball jars and adding a thin layer of olive oil on top to prevent air from getting to the finished product.

Enjoy!
